HARLEY-DAVIDSON FL '53

Text & Photo: Kyrre

Kyrre entered the heavy bike market in 1986 and three years later he bought his first H-D, an original Panhead. He changed it a couple of years later with a Shovel that was choppa. Kyrre has had, and has, a number of projects, both on cars and H-D. He is quite simply a man with itchy fingers, and prefers to come up with something unusual with his projects, or to have something that no one else in Norway has. He has several examples of this that Scanbike can come back to on a later occasion. The H-D shown here is a 'basketball project' that was for sale in Stavanger, a Panhead 1953 model. Kyrre called the seller and made an offer. The seller thought it was simply too much and knocked 10,000 off what Kyrre offered. The owner had put the Panhead aside after enthusiastically starting the project 10 years earlier. He had dismantled the whole thing. Kyrre and his friend Hans-Petter drove to Stavanger, round trip in the snowy weather on the rappen, 210 miles in total, but what can you not do for a Panhead in his fifties! On the bike presented here, there is not much left of what was in the box he bought, only the inner primary, the petrol tank, the gearbox and the ignition lock. The original Panhead tops were overhauled and put on a new, stable bottom part from V-Twin. He got the Jammer frame with a straight leg from Ivan Rams MC (RIP), who then worked at Custom Speed. Kyrre is clear that he does not want to brag about all the work that has been done. He has mostly been a 'builder' and has had help from people who are skilled in their respective fields.
